[SOLVED] Certain Font Awesome icons not showing in Xamarin iOS

Problem None of the icons in the FA v4.7 release were showing up for me, while all the others were… so I had a basic working scenario but not entirely. Background I was doing a simple approach of showing the icons in a Label like so: <Label FontFamily="FontAwesome" Text="&#xf2b5;" /> I had my FontAwesome.ttf file under the iOS project’s Resources folder and via a font explorer tool I confirmed that the v4.

Automatic Header Links

I envied this little eye candy on some other blogs and it was easy to throw together.   If you’re on WordPress, a plugin like Simple Custom CSS and JS comes in handy for stuff like this. CSS a.headerLink:hover { color: inherit; opacity: 1; } a.headerLink { position: relative; transition: opacity 0.5s ease-in-out; cursor: pointer; opacity: .2; } a.headerLink i.fa { position: absolute; left: -1.5em; } a.headerLink:focus { color: inherit !

Xamarin iOS Provisioning Gotchas

I managed to create scenario where debugging from Visual Studio 2017 to iOS Simulator was giving me absolute fits because the error messages are so unhelpful… as usual, it was my own fault of course, but gosh it’s scary how easily one can fall in that deep dark pit where hopes and dreams go to die ; ) Example Error Messages Application X need to be rebuilt due to an inconsistency between the connected Mac and the local app Visual Studio cannot start the application automatically because it was signed with a Distribution provisioning profile.

Aurelia – initial paper cuts

Baseline Wishlist for Dev Tools & Architecture JS Framework: Aurelia (i’m coming from KnockoutJS most recently and keep hearing good things about Durandal v2, aka Aurelia … namely, clean conventions based on vNext web standards, etc.) JS “evolution”: TypeScript (i’m jacked TS v2.1 finally achieved transpiled async/await support for ES5) IDE: Visual Studio 2017 (currently RC2) Web Server: Asp.Net Core, and generally try to track on .

Cleanly driving SSL and WWW prefix on IIS

Background Infrequently enough to forget, I find the need to redirect all non-SSL requests to SSL… or similarly, force the WWW prefix onto a url when the initial navigation comes in without it. I instinctively reach for the URLRewrite module due to it’s flexibility, but i’ve found that it can actually lead me astray in these particular scenarios… TL;DR Create a separate IIS web site for the “undesirable” url which does a simple HTTP Redirect to the desired path

Ethereum 101 on Windows

background / baseline context I’m not even remotely suggesting that this is new info but even though there’s some very friendly guides already cooking out there, I ran into mild snags and this is my attempt to really grease the rails on the way to running the greeter sample smart contract now that we have Ubuntu running natively on Windows 10 this, the native windows binary path for what are obviously linuxy bits sorta feels like a less direct path to success but IIRC i had initial snags that kicked me in this direction these commands target a local private net instance… we get free gas this way so i figure inhale that immediate gratification as quickly as possible and use that energy to conquer our next ether mountain getting spun up and ready to spend some ether Ethereum.

Troubleshooting Prism Xamarin Forms

for the record i’m currently running with the Unity DI framework totally silent app crash on NavigateAsync this is super frustrating when you don’t get any exception stack at all to go on… i can’t tell you how many times i’ve brainfarted a simple typo bug which blows up the xaml parse … so check that well before you get too cranky… e.g. i always forget the “{Binding }” around my commands!

Exposing Azure Function web API to native & web clients through Azure AD authentication

Problem Statement Azure AD writeups are prevalent but I was really struggling to find examples of calling the same Azure Function API, secured by Azure AD Authentication, by both Native as well as Web clients (since we can only select one app type in the Azure AD App registration, not both). TL;DR The kicker solution for me was having both a web and native App registration (i.e. two Client Id’s) and providing the WEB App registration’s Application Id as the “RESOURCE” parameter to the AuthenticationContext.
